Jennifer L. Stotka is a board-certified Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease physician. She spent her career in pharmaceutical research and development. She served 20 years at Eli Lilly & Company in various positions in research and management, then joined Faegre Baker Daniels law firm for three years as an expert drug development consultant.
She earned a Doctor of Medicine degree in 1984 from Wake Forest University School of Medicine. She completed postgraduate training in Internal Medicine at Presbyterian University Hospital, University of Pittsburgh from 1984-87, and served as staff physician in the primary care and the emergency departments at the Veterans Administration (V. A.) Medical Center in Pittsburgh from 1987-88.
Stotka was awarded a National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (N.F.I.D.) Fellowship Award for nosocomial research in 1988. She did fellowship training in Infectious Diseases at Virginia Commonwealth University from 1988-91.
In August 1991, Dr. Stotka began her Lilly career as a Clinical Research Physician in Infectious Diseases. She spent eight years in clinical development, and then 12 years in regulatory affairs. Her positions included Executive Director of Clinical Research and Vice President of Global Regulatory Affairs. She provided comprehensive regulatory oversight, pre-approval strategic guidance, advisory committee preparation insight, and post-marketing regulatory advice on Lilly's entire drug portfolio. She served in all phases of pharmaceutical development. She was an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis from 1991-93. During her Lilly tenure, she also served / led many Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers (PhRMA) steering committees, working groups and dialogue sessions. With Lilly Research Laboratories (LRL), Dr. Stotka was presented with an LRL President’s Award in 1994 and 1999 for crisis management (Fialuridine Crisis) and then developmental Target Product Profile (TPP) leadership / development with the FDA. She resigned her position at Lilly in 2011.
After leaving Lilly, Dr. Stotka joined Faegre Baker Daniels (a full service international law firm) as a Senior Advisor on the Health and Life Science Team. She practiced from the firm’s Indianapolis and Washington D.C. offices. She assisted biopharmaceutical clients navigating regulatory planning, submission preparation and drug application review processes.
Dr. Stotka is retired and resides in western North Carolina. She was involved with the award-winning documentary Lavender Scare (2017) about the persecution of gays in the Federal Government during the Cold War. Her current interests include Pilates, reading, piano, gardening, golf, Tai Chi, rowing and global travel.
